John Deere American Farmer, another title in the long list of games that John Deere has produced over the years to offer farming enthusiasts an alternative to actually farming. I kid, of course you can't farm if it’s raining outside, or can you? That's kind of the deal with this game, it enables you to simulate the life of a farmer by facing all of its challenges.

A farming simulator with a bit of RTS to it

You start the game by picking a type of scenario, the farm location, difficulty and the two family members. After that, you can spend your initial cash on the equipment you’ll need to create a blooming business. Later on you can hire companies to do certain jobs and even add employees.If you’re familiar to farming and the technicalities of the job, the acquisition part should make a lot of sense and go smoothly. On the other hand, if farming simulators are not your thing, you need to make sure you don't end up overpaying and under-producing. The game does help you out a bit by telling you which tractor goes with what drill, ripper and so on. Once you have the gear, moving the two farmers and the equipment is pretty much done like in a real-time strategy game. Selecting a ‘unit’ and issuing orders is done in a similar manner, and you can build additional buildings to expand your farm or base. Maybe the RTS not the best of comparisons.

Simple gameplay and decent(ish) graphics

John Deere American Farmer is kind of old and the graphics are far from being good but they aren’t horrible either. You’ll find several setbacks in animation too and they do add up to create a rather unpolished game.In terms of gameplay, some things might not make sense, like not being able to use two farmers to harvest the same field. However, if you don’t expect too much from it in terms of how close things work when compared to real life situations, John Deere American Farmer really is a nice game to play.

Worth a shot if you’re looking for a casual experience

On a closing note, John Deere American Farmer’s time has set a long time ago. By today’s standards, it’s kind of disappointing visually and the lack of some farming logic along with some other little flaws might not please you. But even so, it’s a nice simulator if you’re into farming.
